June 25, 2015 - I have reached Vienna
A few kilometers after Passau we cross the Austrian border. The landscape keeps getting more and more beautiful.
The Danube changes its color. It looks muddy and sandy. Someone tells us that the Inn river takes a lot of sand into the Danube.
A break at an organic farm. A curious chicken is spending some time with us.
I enjoy being with Hans and Monika. The chemistry is right between us. Continuing our tour we make a stop at Mitterkirchen and visit the Celtic village.
Following the beautiful Danube we arrive at Melk with its big monastery. A guided tour is worthwhile.
Up to now we always had nice weather with a temperature around 25 degrees Celsius. Now it is changing. It is getting colder; the whole day we are having headwind. As Hans and Monika have scheduled their stops and booked rooms we stay in Krems today. It is summer but the night in the tent is quite cold, around 4 degrees.
The next destination is Tulln, birthplace of the painter Egon Schiele with a museum for his early works. When we come into the city I am aware of a boat being repaired at the dry dock.
On the bow I can read the word 'Regentag', I pass, something stops me, I go back and it turns out to be Friedensreich Hundertwasser's boat. Next day I visit the Schiele Museum.
In the afternoon we continue our ride with destination Vienna. I was happy that the campground was close to the center, not far from the Prater at the New Danube. Next day I take the underground railway to the center. Very relaxed, with no specific aim, I wander around in Vienna. Karlsplatz, Spanische Hofreitschule, Stephansdom a.s.o.
Being a gourmet I think of the pleasure visiting Cafe Sacher or Cafe Demel. I prefer Cafe Demel.
Vienna celebrates the Gay and Lesbian Rainbow Party today. A big walk through the center is organised. So the police is quite present in the city. The next day I visit the Hundertwasser House and Museum.
For decades art has been my profession and I met Hundertwasser personally. So I intended to spend some time in the museum. I was so impressed and interested in it that I stayed there almost five hours. The impressions overwhelmed me and I ended the visit. Later on I will visit the museum once more. Now there was not so much time left. I visited Schloss Schönbrunn and went to the Prater in the evening.
Hans took his partner Monika to the airport and then the two of us met in town. The next day the weather gods were not so friendly to us. Rain showers again and again on our way to Bratislava.
